T in the Park organisers forced to take out larger event insurance policy

The organisers of the T in the Park festival have put in a request to the local authorities to increase the capacity of their popular summer event from 25,000 to 30,000. Perth and Kinross Council are now considering the proposal, although they have said that approval will depend on the organiser’s event insurance policy.

T in the Park – taking place at Balado Airfield this July and headlined by Muse, Eminem, Kasabian and Jay-Z – is one of Scotland’s largest music festivals. As such, there is a lot of pressure on the organisers to ensure that the event runs smoothly and that all employees and festival-goers are covered in case of accidents or injuries.

If the council is to approve the increased on-site camping capacity for the event, the organisers must change their event insurance policy to include £45 million worth of coverage. In the proposals submitted to the authority’s Licensing Committee, the organisers have indeed promised this. Their policy will now include:

• Public liability insurance coverage of £25 million
• Employers liability insurance with a professional indemnity limit of £10 million
• Public/Product liability insurance worth £10 million
