The organisers of the 2009 Tony Awards ceremony have reportedly paid out an amount in compensation to the rock singer Bret Michaels after he was injured on stage during the New York City event.
Michaels, who is best known for being the lead singer with the glam rock band Poison, was performing on stage with the cast of the Rock of Ages musical when the incident occurred. He was leaving the stage when a large piece of scenery being lowered from the ceiling struck him on the head.
Immediately after the incident, Michaels complained of a broken nose and other minor injuries. However, the rock singer claims that the accident led to him suffering from a potentially life-threatening brain haemorrhage later on.
Michaels filed a lawsuit against the Tony Awards organisers, as well as CBS TV executives, as they broadcast the show. It has now been reported that both legal cases have been settled out of court.
The exact settlement amount is being kept confidential, but it is likely that at least one party had to use its public liability insurance to cover costs. Representatives for the Tony Awards and for CBS have said that the settlement was “an amicable resolution”.
